Combines/Collages

Mixed Media Combines. I have co-opted the term "Combines" from Robert Rauschenberg and his large scale works from the early 1950's. His combines included paintings, 3 dimentional objects like brooms, clothing, hardware ... I have developed a process that remains 2 dimentional but combines aspects of dfffernt methods/techniques : monoprinting , drawing , painting and traditional collage to create large scale pieces. In my current series I only use paper that I prepare first as large monoprints ( 48"x 60") which are then cut or torn into long stips/banners and small shards . My two ongoing series (shown below) are:
1. Trout Fishing in America - inspired and reference the 1960's book of the same name.
2. The Condition of Music - inspired by a quote from Walter Pater - "All art ascribes to the condition of Music.
